Oh, how I have a hard time writing this one. Today is August 19th, the second day of the last week of summer. By this time next week, the fall semester will be in swing, my dear friends will all be back at school, and my boyfriend will move back to Riverside for the duration of the school year. What a whirlwind of a summer it has been… As cliche as it sounds, the summer really does just fly by. It seems to be going faster and faster each year.
“For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.” – Ecclesiastes 3:1
This is always a tough part of the year for me. Like most everyone, I have my routines and my consistent schedule. I work 4 days a week, have a relationship group on Monday nights, a bible study with my girlfriends on Tuesday nights, watch my niece and nephew on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the day, and attend an 8 PM church service Sunday night AND somewhere in between all of those things, I work, spend time with my boyfriend and friends, and watch countless re-runs of Law & Order: SVU. If you know me, you know how much I like to stick to a routine, and how schedule-oriented I am. I like to be in control of what is going on in my life. I need to know what I’m doing and what to expect from each day. I’m not the most go-with-the-flow kinda-girl, and I really, really, really, don’t like when things change. That is why this time of year is particularly difficult for me. I get super comfortable to having my sweet Zack being a fifteen minute drive away, all my girlfriends being in town for three months, and our schedules being open enough to soak in each other’s company thoroughly. Not even kidding, I am the biggest loner during the school year without them. ha! I get crazy nervous for the first week of school because I don’t know what to expect of my professors, my classes, my workload, etc. Change just flat out scares me.
I am confident that in just a few weeks from now I will be writing a post about how well the semester is unfolding. But until then, as we all return to our books and classes, I will praise God for the wonderful summer this year and hold tight to Him when I’m starting to feel alone and overwhelmed. Praying for motivation, for companionship, focus, & a prosperous school year. Here we go, round three!
